Women Gathering for Justice was founded by a group of women with extensive experience and training as organizers around general social justice issues.  They believed that the time was ripe to focus on social justice issues that disproportionately affect women.

Since our founding, we have worked on a variety of issues in public education and the mass incarceration of women.  We successfully fought against a charter school co-locating in a south side public school, founded a PTA at a local school, and supported the work of several organizations addressing the effects of incarceration of women.

Over time, we have come to believe that our efforts are best focused on addressing the root causes of social justice issues that affect women.
